Kerekes Band is a Hungarian specialty. Using the Shepherd's Flute through many effects and wah wah pedal, 3 string viola and Koboz as the principal lead instruments, they are playing a spicy style of folk/rock and enjoying an increasing popularity not just in Hungary, but also further afield. The Band have just released their new video, a cover of Hendrix's "Voodoo Child", watch it here.

As life-long fans of Jimi Hendrix, Kerekes Band have often incorporated musical references to Hendrix tunes in their performances and improvisations since their formation in 1995. Thus it was an extremely big pleasure for them to cooperate with Mike Finnigan, a Jimi Hendrix Experience session-man, who also played on Hendrix's Electric Ladyland album. Mike helped out with Hammond Organ tunes on Kerekes Band's last CD.

"I was extremely flattered to have these fine Hungarian musicians contacting me to be part of their project, and enjoyed participating immensely.  The band is a tight, hard-driving unit with a high level of musicianship and soul." - Mike told us.

Kerekes Band is out there and already noticed by music industry professionals and music fanatics all around the world: in 2006, the Band was included in UK-based Songlines Magazine's "Top of the World" album selection. Just like Robin Hood in Nottingham, the Hungarian "betyárs" were also known for taking from the rich and giving to the poor. The main difference you can realize is that "betyárs" have a quality band to listen to. Hendrix would surely love to hang out with them.
